Donald Stephens

Donald Douglas Stephens age 81 of Snyder, Texas, died Friday, May 10, 2013 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

Services for Donald Stephens will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Colonial Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Tommy Culwell officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Mr. Stephens was born on January 26, 1932 in Lawn, Texas to Claude E. and Linnie (McGowen) Stephens. He moved to Cross Plains in 1936 and graduated from Bayou High School in Rowden, TX in 1949 as salutatorian.

Mr. Stephens served in the Air Force from 1950-1953 stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas; Albuquerque, New Mexico: Korea; Washington D.C.; and Waco, Texas ranked as a sergeant. He then served with the 124th Armored Calvary Reserves from 1953-1958.

Donald married Velda Crow on June 10, 1955 at Rowden Baptist Church in Rowden, Texas. Mr. Stephens worked for Sun Ray DX from 1958-1970 at the Snyder gasoline plant and a new plant in Victoria, Texas. He was employed with Texaco from 1971-1992 at the Fuller Gasoline Plant working as a roustabout, mechanic, plant operator, and safety chairman. He retired from Texaco in December of 1992.

Mr. Stephens was actively involved in many areas of the church. He serves as a director of youth and two adult departments.

Survivors include his wife Velda of almost 58 years

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Harold and Weldon Stephens; and a sister, Eunice Stephens.

No visitation is planned.

Family requests all memorials be made to Colonial Hill Baptist Church.
