Olen Carter Medford, a native of Bowie County, died Sunday, June 9, 2013 in The Woodlands, Texas.
A family graveside service will be held for Mr. Medford, 83, at Snyder Cemetery at 2 PM on Saturday, June 15. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Medford was born August 7, 1929 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was the son of Olen Carter Edmonds and Lola Bearden Edmonds. He was a resident of DeKalb, Texas, where his widowed mother raised him, his sisters Dotty and Lolene, and his brother James. A 1946 graduate of DeKalb High School, Olen attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas. He subsequently worked at Convair?s Fort Worth aircraft factory and graduated from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.
Mr. Medford worked for Chevron Corporation for 34 years in Snyder, Houston, Venezuela, Kentucky, Indonesia and California, before retiring to Kerrville, Texas. After the death of his wife, Peggy Lynch Medford, he moved to The Woodlands, Texas.
Survivors include his son Richard Medford, daughter-in-law Brandy Pate Medford, and granddaughters Elizabeth Ann Medford and Rebecca Leigh Medford, all of The Woodlands. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, John T. Lynch of Waco and Robert J. Kidd of Snyder, as well as ten nieces and nephews.
