Peggy Ann Fenton

June 22, 1939 — June 15, 2013

Peggy Ann Taylor Fenton or the ""Pegster"" as we like to call her was to say the least, a busy woman. This busy life of hers all started back on June 22nd, 1939 in Snyder, Texas. She was born to Orville and Roberta Taylor during the big flood of '39. Peggy grew up in the cotton fields of Ira, Texas where she went to school, excelled on the basketball court and was the lead majorette.
Peggy was known for her good looks and athletic ability and it was those traits that got the attention of L.D. ""Bubba"" Whitehead. The two met at San Angelo College in 1957 and were married in 1959. They spent some time in Lubbock and Alpine before settling down back at the Whitehead family ranch in Del Rio, Texas. It was here where she had and raised her two children, Taylor and Radell Whitehead. Peggy was a great mother always putting her children and family first. It was in Del Rio where she began to recognize and develop her great entrepreneurial spirit and her love of art and antiques. Her first of several antique stores and art galleries was opened in Del Rio in the late 60's.
In the early 70's, the family made a move to Ft. Davis, Texas where Bubba worked for the King Ranch and Peggy worked for the Fort Davis State Bank. As her love of art continued to grow, she opened her first art gallery here, Fenton-Whitehead. Peggy's ties to the King Ranch and her love of art opened a door to a long term relationship with the Cowboy Artist of America. As her relationship with the C.A.A. grew so did her galleries as Fenton-Whitehead opened galleries in San Angelo and Ruidoso, New Mexico, in the mid to late 80's.
In the 90's, Peggy and her galleries prospered. She would move to Ruidoso and would become the town's ""Unofficial Mayor"". She would also make her business partner, Danny Fenton, her life partner as the two married in 1990. Peggy and Danny would go on to share great success in their business ventures. The two traveled the country buying and selling art and were well known amongst the western art community.
In the early 2000's, Peggy and Danny retired from retail and went back to their home in the fields of west Texas making Hermleigh their final stop. Peggy passed away Saturday June 15th in Colorado City.
Peggy's look was notorious as she generally sported her big hat, boots and jewelry. To say the least, ""she wore it well"". When you saw or met her for the first time, you knew that you had just met someone ""very special.""
She is survived by her loving and caring husband, Danny Fenton. Her children, Radell and Taylor Whitehead, Shea Kellams and Dana Hall. A brother and sister-in-law, Lawton and Pat Taylor. Grandson's Ian Whitehead and James Montgomery and very special family members Mike, Tara and Bailey Jones.
