Helen Owens Yearwood

Helen Owens Yearwood, formerly of Haskell, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at her home in Snyder, Texas. She was born in Henderson, Texas, (Rusk Co.) to Curtis and Lessie Bassett on February 14, 1921. She attended school first grade through tenth grade at Oak Hill School and then graduated from Henderson High School. She attended McNee Business School in Henderson, going later to Springfield, Missouri, to attend Western Union School. She was placed in Denison, Texas, to work. There she met and married Jimmy Owens on October 23, 1943. They made Denison their home until April 1945 when Jimmy went into the service. She moved back to Henderson to be near her family. They then moved to Haskell, Texas, in June of 1959, making their home there for forty two years until Jimmy went to be with the Lord on April 9, 1995.
In October of 1998, she married Harold Yearwood of Snyder, Texas, where they have made their home. They enjoyed traveling, having been on several cruises and bus tours. They loved to travel in their travel trailer. They were members of Texas Church Builders where they made many new friends and felt like they were doing some things for the Lord. Helen was a member of Colonial Hill Baptist Church in Snyder.
She was preceded by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Bassett, and husband, Jimmy Owens.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Yearwood, one son, Bassett Owens of Dallas and one daughter and husband, Beverly and Frank SoRelle of Lubbock, two granddaughters, Emily SoRelle of Lubbock, and Sarah Wright and husband Jeff of Cypress, and two great grandchildren, Garrett and Grace Wright of Cypress.
She is survived by three sisters, Mozelle Garrison of Longview, Betty Little of Henderson, and Billie Margaret Reeves of Royse City, and numerous cousins of Henderson and other towns around Henderson. She is survived by two nieces, Gwen Tomlin and husband Todd of Longview, and Renee Meadors and husband Mark of Rockwall, and one great niece, Allison Meadors of Rockwall.
She is survived by two stepsons and wives, Hamp and Teresa Yearwood of Snyder and David and Debbie Yearwood of Katy, and three step grandchildren, Wade Yearwood of Fort Worth, Josh Yearwood of Spring, and Lacy Yearwood of Lubbock.
Services will be at Bell Cypert Seale Funeral Home in Snyder, Texas, at 10:00 on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, with Clay Giddens officiating. Graveside services will follow at Willow Cemetery in Haskell, Texas, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday under the direction of Bell Cypert Seale with Mr. Carroll Lockett officiating.
