Mr. Beck, a resident of Snyder, passed away Sunday evening, December 1, 2013. Jimmy M. Beck was born February 11, 1932, in Mertzon, Texas. He was one of two sons of Jasper Beck, known as ?Jap? and the former Miss Opal Epperson. His grandfather Beck brought his family to Texas in the 1890?s when ?Jap? was about 12 years old and settled in the Knickerbocker area, south of San Angelo, where he farmed and ranched on leased land. ?Jap? Beck grew up around Kinckerbocker and Mertzon and worked on ranches as a cowboy. When he married Opal Epperson, they moved to Mertzon, where they leased land and ran sheep. In 1938, the ranch they had leased was sold, and they settled north of Snyder. In 1941, ?Jap? Beck sold out his stock and bought his own half section of land east of Snyder on Hwy 180. In 1949, oil was found on his land and he then bought the section on which Jimmy continued ranching on. Jimmy M. Beck started school at Ennis Creek and later graduated from Snyder High School, and went into the ranching business. In 1949, Jimmy met someone who was to change his life forever; Miss Betty Ann Beaver of Fluvanna. On June 19, 1950, Jimmy married Betty Ann in Clovis, NM and returned to the home place to begin ranching. In 1954, Jimmy and Betty Ann were blessed with the first of three sons, Weldon, and in 1956, Joe, their second son was born. Jimmy operated his father?s one and a half sections until his father?s death in 1957, and in 1960, Jimmy started adding additional land, operating on 5,500 acres when finished. There was a small amount of farming, but the main product of the Beck Ranch was cattle, and Jimmy also started running Rambouillet sheep. In 1965, Brent, the youngest of the three sons was born, and all three sons became active in the family ranching business. Jimmy was a member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association, Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and was active in the local school board and was active on a number of livestock committees for a number of years. James Weldon married the former Miss Denise Voss, and they have two daughters; Jamie and Jackie, Weldon & Denise live in Lipan, Texas. Joe Max married the former Miss Sissy Odstercil, and they have three daughters; Kelly, Kimber and Kourtney. Joe & Sissy live in Midland, Texas. Nathan Brent married the former Miss Lisa Franklin, and they have two sons; Blair and Connor. Brent & Lisa live in Midland, Texas.
Jimmy had a definitive philosophy throughout life, work hard, be fair and honest and always help others when needed. Something Jimmy instilled in his sons was hard work, honesty, fairness and helping others. The hard working, positive, friendly, and helping attitude of Jimmy Beck has had a positive influence on many people over the years and is a true inspiration to young and old alike.

Dad, you can rest assured that your philosophy will continue for years to come, we love you and we will miss you; Weldon, Joe and Brent.

Jimmy is survived by three sons, three daughter-in-laws, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
