Connie Smith Key, 93, longtime Snyder resident died Monday morning at the University Medical Center in Lubbock. Funeral service will be at 2 PM Wednesday at the 37th Street Church of Christ with Mr. Dale Huff, Minister, officiating. Interment will follow in Snyder Cemetery under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Key was born August 2, 1916 in Scurry County to the late Earl and Lila (Berry) Shepherd. She grew up in the Pleasant Hill Community, was a graduate of Snyder High School. She was a member of the Snyder Palette Club and had owned and operated Snyder Drapery. She was a charter member of the 37th Street Church of Christ.
She was married to Thomas Wayne Smith in 1934. He preceded her in death in 1972. She later married Jimmy Key and he died in 1979.
She is survived by:
a daughter and son-in-law: Letha and Buddy Mayfield, of Lubbock; a daughter in law; Charlotte Smith of Snyder; a son in law, James Beaver of Sweetwater; a special friend, Dorothy Atkinson of Snyder; seven grandchildren: Kerry Smith, Shana Smith, David Beaver, Steve Beaver, Alan Miller, Chris Miller and Brad Miller; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Beaver, in 2001; a son Jerry Smith on March 29, 2010; and a sister Wanda Griffin.
