Virgie Louise Harris was born December 25, 1910 to George Melmith Hanback (Papaw) and Julia Octavia Beatrice Hanback (Mamaw) in Fluvanna, Texas. Death claimed her June 13, 2010 in Stillwater Oklahoma, at 99 years 6 months of age. Funeral service for Mrs. Harris will be at 10 AM Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Snyder Cemtery with Tom Ukens, and Grandson-in-Law officiating. Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements
Virgie was married to Oscar Fitzgerald (OF) Harris July 4, 1930 in Roswell New Mexico by Reverend C.C. Hill. Virgie and OF moved to Snyder from Fluvanna in 1937. After O.F."s March 3, 1946 death, she raised her son Billy Don in Snyder Texas while working for Southwestern Bell Telephone as an operator. Virgie later moved to Abilene Texas continuing to work for SWB from which she retired in 1975. She remained living in Abilene Texas until moving back to Snyder in the early 90"s. During this time she attended Baptist churches in both cities. Virgie was able to play gospel hymns on the piano for her own enjoyment. She was a fan of Southern Gospel groups including the Stamps. Since 2001 she has lived with family in Tulsa and Stillwater, Oklahoma and of late Westhaven Nursing Home in Stillwater.
Virgie is preceeded in death by her parents Papaw, October 24, 1960 and Mamaw, July 15 ,1967; her Husband O.F. Harris, March 3, 1946; her brothers Marvin Hanback, Jettie Melmith Hanback, and Lester Thurman (Mutt) Hanback; and her only son Billy Don Harris September 29, 2004.
Virgie is survived by her daughter in law Peggy Harris, Granddaughters Kim Ukens and husband Tom, and Kris Langston; Great grand children Nathan Ukens, Rachel Ukens, Allan Langston, JeriKris Langston, Michael Langston, and Chelsey Langston; nieces Rita Margaret Short and Deborah Burney and friends in Texas and Oklahoma.
