Garth Rayburn Austin died onTuesday, September 21, 2010 at Universal Hospice facility in Fort Worth. Funeral service fro Mr. Austin will be at 2PM Friday at the East Side Church of Christ with Mr. Tom Holcomb and Mr. Edwin Parks officiating. Interment will follow in Snyder Cemetery under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Austin was a lifelong resident of Snyder and Scurry County. He was born to the late George Riley and Sarah Vida (McGee) Austin on July 15, 1915 in Fluvanna. He graduated from Snyder High School in 1933 and Draughns Business College in 1936.
Mr. Austin became an Eagle Scout at the age of 17.
He was married to Virginia Franklin on June 18, 1935 in Sweetwater, Texas. She preceded him on February 28, 1981. He later married Frances Martin on June 5, 1982. She preceded him on August 12, 2002. Mr Austin was employed by Texas Electric Company for 30 years, retiring at the age of 75. After retirement he continued to work as a groceryman, both at the Rainbow Market and the local IGA store. He was a Deacon at East Side and held the honor of being the longest and oldest member there. He was honored by the church as a man of faith. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and als the Circle K Kiwanis. He farmed as a hobby, growing peaches, corn, blackeyed peas and tomatoes.

In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded by two sisters.
