Troy Dean Williamson, 73, of Lufkin, TX went home to be with our Lord on March 12, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Troy was born in Snyder, TX on October 30, 1937 to RV and Katherine Williamson. At the time of his death he was a resident in the healthcare unit of PineCrest Retirement Community in Lufkin.
Troy is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home. Three sons: Dean and wife Sharla of Cypress; Dale and wife Cherie of Abilene; and Stephen and wife Jennifer of Lufkin. Four grandchildren: Brad and Chris of Cypress;Nathan of Abilene; and Shaeleigh of Lufkin. Troy was preceded in death by his parents, RV and Katherine Moffett Williamson, formerly of Snyder and his sister, Linda Peteet, formerly of Denton.
Troy was reared in Snyder where he attended school in the Pleasant Hill Community and then in Snyder, where he graduated from Snyder High School in 1955. While in high school he was active in the "Pride of the West" band, was a Master Counselor with the International Order of DeMolay and was an active member of Colonial Hill Baptist Church. Troy served in the National Guard from 1954 to 1957. During his guard service he earned a FCC Amateur Radio license,callK5IRF, and has maintained his license since.He was a32nd degree Mason Scottish Rite. Troy attended Texas Tech Universityand transferred to Hardin Simmons University where he completed a B.A. degreein 1959. After college Troymoved to Detroit, MI to serve as the National Distribution Manager for Rinshed-Mason Company. While in Michiganhe was a member of Livonia Baptist Church. He was ordained a Deacon at Livonia and served on a number of committees, including the finance and pastor"s search committees, and was an active member of Gideon"s International. Troy completed 26-graduate hours in Business Administration at Wayne State University while in MI.Troy also served as the Production Manager for DEMCO Corporation in Madison, WI before returning to Snyder in 1973 to own and operate Williamson Auto Supply, Inc. In Snyder Troy was active in church and community. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School Director, Sunday School Teacher and on many committees over the years at Colonial Hill Baptist Church. He received the American Business Women"s Association "Boss of the Year" award in 1983. He was active with the Snyder Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Board of Directors and as a member of the Gold Coats, Snyder"s Good Will Ambassadors.Troy held several local club officers positions,including club president with the Snyder Noon Kiwanis Club, served as the Kiwanis Texas-Oklahoma Lt. Governor and was selected as the recipient of the "Kiwanian of the Year" award twice by his fellow Kiwanians. He was a life member of the Texas-Oklahoma Kiwanis Foundation. Troy served on the Board of Development for Hardin Simmons University and on the Advisory Board for Humble-Smith School. He served on the Snyder City Council two terms as a Councilman, and three terms as Mayor. While serving as Snyder"s Mayor he served on the Texas Municipal League (TML)Board of Directors and as aDirector on the TML Insurance Board. He served on the Board of Directors of the West Central Texas Council of Government. In 1988 ABC-affiliate KTXS in Abilene selected Troy as one of "Twelve Who Care" in the Big Country for his service to his community. In the program Troy commented that his values are "church and family" and that involvement in the community "is because of that".In 1992he completed a Master of Public Administration degree from Angelo State University. In 1993 he moved to San Angelo to serve as the Regional Services Director for the Concho Valley Council of Government where he served thirteen counties in the Concho Valley region. While in San Angelo Troy was an active member, a Deacon and a Sunday School Director at the First Baptist Church of San Angelo. While in San Angelo Troy completed an
