Mrs. Dorothy Browning, age 96, of Snyder, Texas, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 in Pflugerville.

Memorial services for Dorothy will be at 2:00 pm, Sunday, November 27, 2011, at the East Side Church of Christ in Snyder, Texas. Mr. Rick Martin will be officiating.

Dorothy was born September 28, 1915, in Lamar County near Paris, Texas, to R. D. and Eliza Jane (Henson) Finley. Her first husband, and father of her three children, Curtis Leon Brunson, died in 1953. Dorothy then married Buford Browning in 1959; Buford died in 1999. Dorothy lived in Snyder for over fifty years, with the last eight years under the care of Susan Bills of Resident Care. Dorothy had worked at Owens Department Store, at the Scurry County treasurer"s office, and the sheriff"s office. She was a longtime member of East Side Church of Christ.

Dorothy loved to paint, and won many awards for her artwork. She was also a member of the Snyder Garden Club, winning awards for her irises and day lilies. She also enjoyed playing bridge, but her greatest love was her family. Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother, and Memaw, and invested herself in their lives. She poured out her love through giving and never failed to help when needed. Dorothy was a great example and is the reason many of her family are followers of Jesus Christ.

Dorothy"s four children are daughters Wanda Ledbetter and Cleone Stephens, son Douglas Brunson (died 2008), and step-daughter Eleanor Vermillion. Grandchildren include Jay Stephens, Tori Turner Fleming, Cari Stephens Boren, Mike Vermillion,Tonda Turner, Tristi Turner Chatham, Tasha Turner Kasselder, Vicky Vermillion, Barry Brunson (died 1976), David Vermillion, Brigette Brunson Grimmett, Bryan Brunson, and Douglas Brunson. Dorothy has one surviving sister, Myrtle Axtell. She was the great grandmother of sixteen children and the great-great grandmother of one.
