George R. Clark

George R. Clark died of heart failure after a lengthy illness February 21, 2012. Graveside services will be held at 2PM Friday at Hillside Memorial Gardens with Mr. Steve Barrett officiating under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Born August 17, 1922 in Corpus Christi, Texas he was the son of Claude Carson and Mildred Armstrong Clark.

Mr. Clark enlisted the next day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Mr. Clark was a WWII U.S.N. combat veteran who served on the destroyer USS ELLET DD398. Whose ship was awarded 13 battle stars one of which was for the Tokyo Raid another for the Soloman Islands invasion and yet another was for the Midway Island battle. His ship was part of the submarine screen for the USS Enterprise. Mr. Clark was also a member of the Savo Island Swim Club. He attained the rank of 1st Class Petty Officer as a Sonarman.

He married Ruby L. Baker on September 29, 1945 in Corpus Christi. After the war, Mr. Clark became an Electronics Technician for the Navy at CCNAS O&R Department. When the DOD closed that facility in 1959 he was hired by the FAA serving in Wink, Texas, Salt Flat, Truth or Consequences, NM and then accepted transfer to Snyder in August 1967, maintaining three Radar Microwave Repeaters until his disability retirement in 1980.

Mr. Clark was baptized into Christ in 1939 and attended Churches of Christ.

His parents, four sisters and three brothers preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife Ruby Clark of Snyder, two sons and daughters in law, Ron and Jo Ann of Snyder; Mark and Jena of Midland, two sisters, Judith of Fort Worth and Martha Byrd of Fort Worth; two brothers Bill of Weatherford and John of Redland, CA; one granddaughter, Amy of Midland; three grandsons, Rick of Fairfield, TX, Kyle of Midland, and Timothy of Snyder; five great granddaughters and one great grandson and one great great granddaughter.
