James Beckham, age 98 of Snyder passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at his Residence in Snyder, TX. Services will be on Saturday, October 27,2012 at Bell-Cypert-Seale Chapel at 2:00 PM, with Elder Bernard Gowens, Primitive Baptist Church minister officiating. Interment will follow in the Snyder Cemetery under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Beckham was born September 23 1914 in Richland, Texas to Thomas and Inez Nixon Beckham. He married Eura Sneed on June 7, 1941 in Midland Tx.
After graduating from Breham High School, he began working for Sun Oil Company, retiring after forty years. He was a long time member of the Primitave Baptist Church in Snyder and served as a deacon. He was also active at the Senior Citizen Center where he previously helped with Meals on Wheels.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years. Eura, in 2002, two daughters, Gayle Elizabeth Beckham Smith in 2002 and Marilyn Beckham in 1955; one sister, and two brothers.
Survivors include two daughters, Gwen Henry of Pensacola, Florida, and Carolyn Martin of Snyder, Texas, one son and daughter -in-law, James and Mary Beckham of Odessa, Texas, and one son-in-law, Daun Smith of Granbury , Texas; six grandchildren, Thomas Beckham of Odessa, Texas, Timothy and Jodi Beckham of Ira, Texas, Amber Smith of Kuwait, Bradley Smith of Austin Texas, Trent and Annette Martin of Ira Texas, Reese and Melanie Martin of Abilene Texas; and seven Great-Grand children, Tanner Martin, Nichole, Kristen, David, and Thomas Beckham, and Daylon and Dillon Moore; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday October 26,2012 at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
the family suggests memorials to the Scurry County Senior Citizens Center or the Snyder Primitive Baptist Church.
