Hazel E. Berry

March 30, 1919 — February 26, 2014

Hazel E. Berry, age 94 and long-time resident of Snyder, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Windcrest Healthcare Center in Abilene. Scheduled services include a time of visitation with her family beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home in Snyder on Saturday, March 1, followed by a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at Hillside Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Berry, daughter of Pluma Webb Jones and Andrew Jackson Jones, was born on March 30, 1919 in the China Grove community of Scurry County, and her family later moved to the Pleasant Hill area outside Snyder, where she met her future husband. After finishing Snyder public schools, she married L.A. Berry on June 30, 1937 at Bell's Rose Garden in Snyder. She was a homemaker and mother of three boys, and was an accomplished seamstress who later worked for a local men's clothing store. She and L.A. were long-time members of 37th Street Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters - Madie Jones and Opal Jones Minton, one brother - Donald Jack Jones, two sons - Powell and Phil Berry, and one granddaughter - Kristina Berry Hudson.

Her survivors include one sister - Bonnie Jones Crenshaw of Snyder, one son - Rick and his wife Ann, of Liberty, two daughters-in-law - Gwenda Berry of Abilene, and Vicki Berry of Mountain Home, Texas, five grandchildren - Greg Berry and wife Carrie, Ray Berry and wife Molly, Dean Berry and wife Julie, all of Abilene, Dr. Rachel Berry Cook and husband Jared of Temple, Texas, and Travis Berry of Houston. Mrs. Berry was also blessed with seven great grandchildren - Sam, Tom, Will, Brooke, Logan, Abby, and Wes, all of Abilene.

Hazel and L.A. enjoyed bridge club with friends, family reunions, the Berry Golf Classic, family outings such as hunting and fishing trips, holiday celebrations, and watching various sporting events of their children and grandchildren through the years. Her presence will be sorely missed.
