J. O. Morrison

Judson Othniel (J.O.) Morrison III, age 86 of Snyder, Texas, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Carillon House in Lubbock. Services for Mr. Morrison will be held Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 2 PM at Colonial Hill Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Tommy Culwell officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

J.O. was born on January 31, 1928 in Lubbock, Texas, to J.O. II and Jessie Morrison (deceased). After moving with his family to Snyder, J.O. attended the Snyder Public Schools, graduating from high school in 1944. After working for two years for the U.S. Postal Service in Snyder, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Japan from 1946-1947. J.O. then attended the University of Texas at Austin, before returning to Snyder to re-join the U.S. Postal Service in 1950. He worked 41 years in the Snyder Post Office until his retirement in 1987, serving in many roles, lastly as Supervisor of Mail.

J.O. was an active member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Snyder for many years, where he participated in Church Builder mission trips to Montana, Colorado, and California. J.O. enjoyed travelling, playing cards, cooking, listening to music, reading and of late, entertaining his two grandsons.

He is survived by: one son, Judson O. (Jud) Morrison IV & his wife Samantha of Houston, Texas; one sister, Mary Ann Key of Snyder, Texas; and two grandchildren, Cooper & Judson Morrison of Houston, TX. J.O. was preceded in death by his wife Nona Morrison, of Snyder, Texas; two sisters, Aileen Alexander, of Farmers Branch, Texas, and Elizabeth Roberts, of Amarillo, Texas.

In life, J.O. loved God and sought to serve him through his family and career. He was kind, thoughtful, and compassionate. He had a wonderful sense of humor that lifted the spirits of all around him and carried him through life’s hardships. J.O.’s life was a blessing to all who knew him and he will be greatly missed.
