Ada Laverne Staton

Ada Laverne Thornburg was born June1, 1920 in Mingus, Texas to Marcus L. Thornburg and Myrtle Hill Thornburg. She passed peacefully from this life to be with her savior on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Kristi Lee Manor in Colorado City, Texas at the age of 94.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday December 9, 2014 at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder, Texas. Pastor Larry McAden of Calvary Baptist Church of Snyder will be officiating.

Ada was born in Mingus, Texas and lived there until a young age when her family moved to Roscoe, Texas. There she met the love of her life, Roy Staton, and they were married on December 21, 1937. Shortly thereafter the moved to Snyder and resided at the family farm northeast of Snyder for 66 years, raising their 4 children there. She was an accomplished seamstress and cook. She was also very creative and could make most anything. She had a great sense of humor and never passed up a good game of "42". She will be missed by her family and friends.

Ada was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Staton on December 20, 1998 (one day shy of their 61st anniversary), her daughter, Betty Staton Moore on April 14, 2010, and a son-in-law, Clinton Sellars on February 28, 1994. Her parents Marcus L. Thornburg and Myrtle L. Thornburg Bassinger, step-father Frank Bassinger, brothers, H.D. Thornburg, Lowell Thornburg, Leslie Bassinger, Owen (Shorty) Bassinger and sister, Gladys Geiger and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ada is survived by 2 sons and daughter-in-laws, Bobby and Rita Staton of Snyder, Dean and Annette Staton of Snyder, and a daughter and son-in-law , Linda and Eddie Williams of Snyder and a son-in-law, Eugene Moore of Burleson, TX. Eight Grandchildren, Tammy Davis, Mark Staton, Greg Moore (Deborah), Kelly Rothwell (Bobby), Guy Staton (Kimberly), Cheryl Stephens (Chad), Stacie Bundy and Chad Sellars (Terri). Nine great grandchildren, Shelby Davis, Grand and Garrett Moore, Kelsey and Cody Rothwell, Issac Staton, Lillie Stephens, Lacie Thompson and Hayley Goldsmith.
