Norma Sue Thompson
Norma Sue Thompson, 83, of Snyder died peacefully Sunday morning, February 22, 2015 in Bentonville, AR. Funeral Service will be Friday, February 27 at 10:00am at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home with Dr. Tommy Culwell of Colonial Hill Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00-7:00pm at the funeral home.
Mrs. Thompson was born on April 18, 1931 in Bastrop, LA to S.H. & Eva Jerusha Bankston Adams. She was the youngest of eight children. Norma is survived by her children, Jeannine Merrifield and husband, Edmon of Graford; David Thompson of Snyder; and Lisa Bowden and her husband, John of Bentonville, AR. Grandchildren Jeannifer Whitaker and her husband, Donald of Anson; Julie Barnes of China Springs; Trevor Thompson and his wife, Kyle of Amarillo; Tate Thompson and his wife Nikki of Haskell; Robyn Thompson of Joshua; and Claire and Annabelle Bowden of Bentonville, AR. Great-grandchildren Hadly and Wyatt Whitaker of Anson; Colton Dixon of China Springs; Brady Neese of Amarillo; Karter and Kylan Thompson of Haskell; and Parker Tanner of Joshua as well as many nieces and nephews.
Norma was an active member of the Snyder community for many years and a member of Colonial Hill Baptist Church. She was an owner of Thompson's Shoe Store and NJ's Dress Shop, both located on the Square. She was a member of the Snyder Country Club Ladies Golf Association for almost 50 years, having served in many capacities including President. Norma played in golf tournaments all over the state of Texas, winning on many occasions, and she continued playing until she was 80 years old. She was a member of the Jaycee-ettes and a member and officer of the Iota Psi chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha. Norma also bowled in several bowling leagues; she always enjoyed being around friends. She had a love of the outdoors, spending a lot of time in her garden and hunting and fishing. She also enjoyed participating in and supporting many cancer-related causes.
Norma, or “NaNa” as she was known to many, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their many events.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Thompson; one grandson, Jeffrey David Barnes; as well as her 7 brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be Trevor Thompson, Tate Thompson, John Bowden, Donald Whitaker, Wyatt Whitaker and Kinney Robinson.
The family requests donations be made in her memory to Circle of Life Hospice
