Gerald Wayne Johnson passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the age of 83. He was born in Winnsboro, Texas on August 31, 1931, the youngest child of Etchel “Bud” and Sallie Johnson. He married Beverly Ann Vick on February 9, 1951, and they celebrated 58 years of marriage before her passing in 2009.
Gerald graduated from Winnsboro High School in 1948. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1952 and a Master of Education Degree in 1959 from Sam Houston State University. He served 8 years in the Army Reserve during the time he was working on his degrees. He worked for the Soil Conservation Service in Livingston and Crockett, Texas before transferring to Snyder in 1959. He established Johnson Seed Company and Agricultural Services in 1964. In 1972, he established Kan-Tex Seed Company where he worked until selling the company in 1983. From 1983, he continued to work in the seed industry until retirement.
He was a member of the 37th Street Church of Christ for 55 years.
He was preceded in death by both parents, two brothers, Orman and R.H. Johnson of Winnsboro, and two sisters, Verlee Williams of Fort Worth and Faye Rogers of Marble Falls.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Sherry Johnson, of Cedar Park, Texas, his son and daughter-in-law, Kirk and Kim Johnson of Coppell, Texas and his two grandchildren, Brandon and Preston Johnson of Coppell.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday, June 7 from 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home. A celebration of Gerald’s life is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 8 at 37th Street Church of Christ with a burial to follow at the Hillside Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests that memorial gifts can be made to the Needy Children’s Fund at 37th Street Church of Christ or to a charity of choice.
Gerald will always be remembered for his positive attitude, quick wit, sage advice, and for his deep love of God, family, and friends.
