Bobby Gene Ivey

March 24, 1929 — April 23, 2016

Bobby G. Ivey, 87 of Snyder, Texas died at his home Saturday, April 23, 2016. Services for Bob will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday April 26, 2016, at First Christian Church in Snyder with Dr. Marty Akins and Reverend Monte Wike officiating. Internment will follow at the Townsend Cemetery, a family cemetery. Services are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Bob was born on March 24, 1929, in Hermitage, Arkansas. He was the rambunctious youngest son of Nancy and M. C. Ivey, Sr. He loved growing up on a farm with his older brother and sister. He had an infectious sense of humor and optimism that lasted his entire life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Virginia Penick, his brother, M. C. Ivey, Jr. and beloved pets, especially his long-time dog, Useless.

He joined the U. S. Army in 1952 during the Korean conflict. He was stationed in Germany for most of his enlistment and achieved the rank of corporal. Upon his honorable discharge, he followed the oil boom and moved to Snyder where he was employed by Lion Oil Co. Lion Oil sold to Monsanto, then to BHP Petroleum. He worked at the gas plant almost 40 years before retiring in the early 1990s. In addition to working hard, he and his coworkers enjoyed playing practical jokes on each other and had many good times together.

Bob married Jeannette Harmon on February 2, 1962 in Anson, Texas. They made their home in Snyder where he was a master carpenter and woodworker in his spare time. He built beautiful kitchen cabinets and pieces of furniture. He remodeled many area homes, including his own, for over 30 years. He and Jeannette built their Lake Brownwood cabin from the ground up with only help from friends. His enticement to enlist help was if you helped build it, you could have free use of it and many friends took him up on that. He loved to fish and hunt quail and dove. He had several beloved bird dogs during his hunting years. He and Jeannette enjoyed traveling the U. S. with their last long trip being a driving vacation to Alaska and back.

Bob would help friends and strangers alike when needs arose, but he never really met a stranger, just new friends. He loved God and was an active member of First Christian Church ready to perform any function needed and help in any way possible. He quietly served others throughout his life.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Past Master of Scurry Lodge 706. Last year, he was awarded his 60 year pin by the Grand Lodge of Texas. He was active in the Scurry and Hermleigh Lodges until his death. He was an active Shriner and a member of the Blue Scottish Rite. He was a Snyder Shriner in charge of helping people with sick children apply for free services through the Scottish Rite Hospitals.

Bob was humbled and honored to be chosen for the 2014 South Plains Honor Flight for area veterans to enjoy a three day trip to Washington D. C. where they visited many veteran monuments and memorials. He enjoyed this trip immensely and his family heard how much the chaperones and other veterans enjoyed him and his sense of humor.

Finally, his foremost priority was always his family. He was a strong, caring man who led by example. He worked hard, provided for them well and loved them unconditionally. He will forever be missed here on earth, but his family understands that God called him home to liven up things in heaven. We know he is using his carpentry skills to help God build mansions for His children.

Bob (Pa Hen) is survived by his wife, Jeannette (Ma Hen ) of Snyder, four daughters, Gabrielle Ivey ( Rugus) and Lyndia Allen (Pooh) of Snyder, Teresa Rylander ( Kresa) of San Angelo and Nancy Frank of Hot Springs, AR; three grandchildren, Tiffany Wallace of Hominy, OK, Kaylee-Ann Ivey (Monkey Dunk) and Christian Dulaney (Booger Red) of Snyder; one great grandson, Elyott Mills of Hominy, OK,; numerous nieces and nephews; and a multitude of loving friends and extended family. We will honor him by attempting to live a favorite Bible verse, John 13:34: " A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."

Memorials may be made to his favorite medical organization, Scottish Rite Hospital, 2222 Wlborn St., Dallas, Tx. 75219
