Mary Jimm Wade Stinson Floyd
1936 – 2016

Mary Jimm Floyd passed from this life on April 26, 2016 at Hendrick Hospital in Abilene, Texas after a lengthy illness. Services for Mary Jimm will be held at 3 o’clock Saturday, April 30, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church in Snyder, Texas with Reverend Dana Mayfield officiating. Graveside services at Snyder Cemetery will precede the memorial service.

Mary Jimm was born May 17, 1936 at Snyder Hospital. She was the only child of Ruby (Joyce) and James Wilmeth Wade. Mary lost her father to cancer when she was only 4. Ruby and Mary Jimm persevered with the help of family and a great community.

On March 15, 1945, Ruby married Lee T. Stinson. Lee T. lost his teenage son Billy Joe and later his wife Lilly to illness, both in 1943. With the blessing of Wilmeth Wade’s mother, Lee T. adopted Mary Jimm as his daughter.

Mary Jimm enjoyed a great life growing up in Snyder with the Stinson, the Wade and the Joyce families. She graduated from Texas Tech University and later received her Master’s Degree in Education there.

She married the love of her life Dean Floyd on December 27, 1956. Mary followed Dean from Tech to the University of Houston where Dean completed pharmacy school. While in Houston Mary began her teaching career at an elementary school near the Houston ship channel teaching underpriviledged first graders. One of her treasured possessions was a shower gift of a baby shirt purchased by one of her first graders with money he earned shining shoes.

After pharmacy school Mary Jimm and Dean returned to Snyder with their young son. They began their adult life in Snyder. Dean as Pharmacist for Lee T. at Stinson Drug and Mary Jimm as Elementary School Teacher for the Snyder Independent School District.

Jimma as Dean always called her was Mrs. Floyd to many a young person going through her class at West and later Central Elementary School. Mary Jimm’s pride and joy along with her family were the students whose lives she touched.

Mary Jimm and Dean were lifelong best friends who enjoyed their families, friends and people that life brought their way.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband Dean on December 13, 2007, Mary Jimm is survived by her two sons and their wives, Alan and Deena Floyd and Brad and Sally Floyd, all of Snyder. Her five grandchildren and four great grandchildren are grandson Raymond Floyd of Snyder and great grandsons Kelbyn Floyd of San Angelo, Trent Dean Floyd of Colorado City, and great granddaughter Raynah Jimm Floyd of Snyder.
