Mrs. Jessie Mae Merket, 98 of Colorado City and Snyder, TX was born March 11, 1918, in the China Grove Community and died Sunday, July 24, 2016 in San Angelo, TX. She was a member of Colonial Hill Baptist Church, First Baptist Church in Colorado City, TX and China Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Merket will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Colorado City, TX with Dr. Tommy Culwell officiating. Burial will follow at the Colorado City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Her parents were Jess and Mae Brown and she married Stanley Merket on April 17, 1937, in the parsonage of First Baptist Church in Colorado City by the Reverend Dick O’Brien. They were married 60 years when he passed away in 1997.
She had two daughters, Joann Snider and husband Don of Snyder, TX and Gloria Baird and husband Glen of San Angelo, TX. Grandchildren include Jerrel Pylant, Jeff Pylant and wife Teresa, Jacqueline Freeman and husband Layton, Janetta Kruse and husband Darrell, Amanda Baird and Russell Baird and wife Charity. Step Grandson, Max Snider and wife Gail, and Step Grandson Steve Snider.
Great Grandchildren include Ashley Pylant, Taylor Freeman, Brittany Pylant, Bailey Kruse, Brooke Pylant, Trent Freeman, Kourtney Kruse, Josh Snider and wife Heatherly, Emily Snider, Xavier Saenz and Holly Cox.
Great-Great-Grandchildren include Rhett, Grant, Cora May, Wyatt, Enna Kay, Holt, Flint and Bront Snider.
Her parents, husband and brothers, Ed Brown and Johnny Brown, preceded her in death.
She had many accomplishments including Sunday school teacher, Home Demonstration member and President, 4-H Club Leader, Brownie Leader, Rainbow Sponsor, Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Pink Lady at Root Memorial Hospital, Sewing Factor Supervisor for 10 years, Meals on Wheels for Sr. Citizens and Meals on Wheels for First Baptist Church, Colorado City, TX.
She loved to play tennis and 42. Her goal was to win. She was a wonderful cook, homemaker, seamstress and care taker. She loved her Children, Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great-Grandchildren.
She loved to host family gatherings, entertaining preachers and revival preachers and always setting a beautiful table. She loved to sew, making all of her daughters’ clothes and many fancy dresses for Granddaughters, making many drapes, curtains and pillows. She made dresses for Dr. Culwell’s mother and many neighbors.
She never said a curse word- probably never knew any.
When members of China Grove Baptist Church, she and her husband cleaned the church once a month.
