Margaret Ann Corkran passed away early in the afternoon of Sunday, May 28.
A memorial service is pending. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bell-Cypert-Seale funeral home.
Margaret was born in Bloomberg, Texas, in 1944 and grew up in Los Alamos, New Mexico, graduating from Los Alamos High School. She received a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Baptist University.
She was married to Gerald Corkran in August of 1968. They were married 48 years.
Margaret spent most of her career teaching at Snyder Junior High School, and made teaching her life’s work. She was defined by the impact she had on the young minds that came through her classroom for over 30 years, and cared deeply for her students. Her love and care for her students showed in the unique, active projects that drew so much creativity out of students each year. Outside of school, she had frequent interactions with students who loved her, seen many years later, and anywhere she went.
Margaret loved to garden. It was her soul. Even in the most drought-stricken west Texas summer, she managed to keep her yard and her gardens filled with beauty. She was also well known for the fantastic Christmas she made happen each year. If you were lucky enough to visit during December, it would be impossible to leave without feeling the Christmas spirit yourself.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Gerald Corkran of Snyder; two children, Jeff and his wife Elisa, of Dallas, Texas, and Andrea Corkran, of Parker, Colorado; her sister, Janice Peterson, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her nieces and nephews, cousins, and the rest of her relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington D.C. 20090-6011 and/or at alz.org.
