Hudgins, H. Paul – April 3, 2017. Paul Hudgins, Jr., died peacefully Monday, April 3, 2017, at his home in Lake Dallas, TX, his son, daughter-in-law, and their sons keeping watch, quietly. Born January 5, 1926 to Susie (Hamlett) and Paul Hudgins in Ft. Worth, he lived in Texas for all but two of his 91 years. Paul served in the US Army during WW II as a Medical Corpsman assigned to the hospital trains and was stationed in Paris, France. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Taking the Honor Flight in October 2014 was a late-life honor that he cherished.
Paul earned a BA in Art and History from the University of North Texas as a G.I. following the War, and he soon began his career as a commercial artist and illustrator. His award-winning artwork can be found in galleries and private collections across Texas and the US, as well as in books and magazines spanning a professional career of over 65 years. But his artist’s gift is especially displayed in the hand-painted books he crafted for his grandchildren.
His parents and sister Suzanne predeceased him. He is survived by his son, Shepperd Hudgins, Sr., and wife Genell, of Lake Dallas, and their children Shepperd Hudgins, Jr., and his wife Brianne, Corinth and Colorado Springs, CO; and Sandlin Hudgins, Lake Dallas; his daughter Shannan Hudgins, Contoocook, NH and her children James F. Herrmann, Cambridge, MA, and Claire S. Herrmann, Northampton, MA.
