Mrs. Betty Jo Richardson, 73, passed away at her home near Dunn, TX on Friday, September 8, 2017, following a lengthy illness.
Services for Mrs. Richardson will be held on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church with Reverend David Robertson and Reverend Dave Blackwell officiating. Internment will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of Bell Cypert Seale Funeral Home.
Betty was born on October 1, 1943 in Lubbock, TX to Bernard and Sadie (Jenkins) Longbotham, Jr.. After graduating from Snyder High School in 1960, she earned a Bachelor's degree from University of Houston and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Angelo State University. She was an elementary reading specialist and first grade teacher for 32 years.
She married John Richardson on November 25, 1970 and they made their home near Dunn. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Snyder and was active in the Martin Preuitt, Jr., Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Historic Scurry County, Scurry County Retired Teachers Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a fourth generation Scurry County resident, and loved teaching, traveling and her grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her husband, John Richardson, of Dunn; two children, Jessica Raatz of Bartlesville, Oklahome, and Amy Hargrove and husband, Mark, of Snyder, and four grandchildren, Austin and Ashley Raatz, and Callie and Ethan Hargrove. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sadie and Bernard Longbotham, Jr., and a sister, Connie Williamson. The family especially wants to thank her very special caregivers, Evelyn Ware, Cookie Luna, and Lisa Rodriguez.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 5 PM to 6 PM at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
