Ann Smartt, 93, of Snyder, Texas passed away on April 20, 2023, after a brief hospice hospital stay.
Ann was born on December 5, 1929, to Ralph and Nancy Zell Walker in Biardstown, Texas. She grew up in Merkel and Abilene, Texas, where she met and married her husband of 42 years, Jack Smartt. Ann and Jack had 3 children, Drew, David and DeeDee Smartt.
Ann spent her work life as a secretary for multiple oil companies, newspapers and for Crane and Andrews Counties as Deputy Tax Assessor.
Ann and Jack shared a passion for community service. Ann contributed to many Scurry County organizations. She served on the Board of Directors for the Ritz Community Theatre, Scurry County Museum, the Snyder Chamber of Commerce and as a Gold Coater for many years. She served as Regent amongst other offices for the Martin Preuitt, Jr. Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) where she was able to explore and share her love for family genealogy and history. Ann was an active member of the Snyder First United Methodist Church. She felt especially honored to support the work of the Scurry County United Way as a Board Member and through the annual “Jack and Ann Smartt” Award presented to the person or organization most benefiting Scurry County and United Way.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Smartt, her parents, Ralph and Nancy Zell Walker; her two sons, Andrew Britton Smartt and David Stuart Smartt and her brother, John Robert Walker.
She is survived by her daughter, DeeDee Smartt Lynch (Mike Lynch) of Snyder, grandson, Daniel Wallace (Ashley Jones) of Snyder, granddaughter, Nancy Bradley (Chad Bradley) of Tyler, Texas and grandson, Jack Wallace of Midland, Texas. She is survived by great granddaughters, Faith and Charity Bradley, and great grandson, Christian Bradley of Tyler, Texas and, soon to be great granddaughter, Emily Jones of Snyder. She is also survived by her niece, Beth Ann Walker of Orlando, Florida.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 25 th , 2023 at Grace Fellowship Church (formerly known as First United Methodist) 2700 College Avenue, Snyder, with pastor, Chad Bradley officiating. There will be a brief burial committal service at 3:00 pm at Elmwood Cemetery, 5750 U.S. Hwy 277, Abilene, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Scurry County United Way.
