In Loving Memory of Barbra Gail Jones
1955-2023
Barbra Jones, 68, of Snyder passed away on August 1, 2023, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
Barbra Gail Jones, born on May 31, 1955, to O.P. and Ruth Tate, grew up in Snyder, TX, where she excelled in 4-H and gymnastics during her formative years. On September 1, 1973, she married her high school sweetheart, Alvah Jackson "Jack" Jones in a small ceremony at her parents' home, and together, they welcomed three children into their lives.
Dedicated to her education, Barbra attended college and completed her bachelor’s degree in education from Texas Tech University in record time, where she was a charter member of the Golden Key International Honor Society. She devoted 17 years to teaching in the Snyder Independent School District, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of countless students.
After retiring from teaching, Barbra continued to serve her family and community in various ways. Together with Jack, they opened the Home Away from Home Pet Hotel, boarding and caring for dogs, showing her love for animals almost as much as she loved her grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Barbra was known for her boundless energy, always taking on new projects and jobs. She was never at a loss for words and rarely sat still. She was always on the move, making the most of every moment.
In the medical world, Barbra was a true unicorn, puzzling doctors and prompting them to delve into medical books to provide her with accurate care. Her strength and determination were admired by all who knew her.
On August 1, 2023, surrounded by her family, Barbra passed away after a sudden illness. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to her husband of 50 years, Jack Jones, their three children: Debbi Galbraith (married to Matthew Galbraith) of Murphy, TX; Holly Bullard White (married to Kenny White) of Nashville, TN; and Ty Jones (married to Shanna Jones) of Lubbock, TX.
Barbra's memory will forever be cherished by her 12 grandchildren: Ashley Jones and her fiancé, Dan Wallace, of Snyder; Joshua Black of Murphy; Reagan Jones of Manhattan, KS; Kathryn Bullard of Lubbock; Riley Bullard of Lubbock; Chloe Jones of Lubbock; Bradley Merritt of Lubbock; Serenity Galbraith of Murphy; Peyton Galbraith of Murphy; Makenna Merritt of Lubbock; Makaylee Merritt of Lubbock; Colson Jones of Lubbock, and her great-grandchild, Emily Jones of Snyder.
Barbra was preceded in death by her parents, O.P. & Ruth Tate, her brother, Baby Tate, and her sister, Darlene Beard. She leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love that will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 6-7pm at Bell Cypert Seale.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 6, 2023, at 2:30pm. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens.
