Dale Hamby- Obituary

Dale Hamby passed away at Cogdell Hospital on Tuesday, April 3rd, 2019.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 6th, 2019 at First Baptist Church with Reverend Ben Reid and Hospice Chaplain Kinney Robinson officiating. Internment will follow at Snyder Cemetery under the direction of Bell-Cypert- Seale Funeral Home.

Dale was born April 1st, 1939 in San Marcos, Texas in Hays County to Ollie and Julia (Harrell) Hamby.

He graduated in 1956 from Stamford High School before enrolling at Tarleton State University in Stephenville. He earned a bachelors degree in Education of History at North Texas University in Denton and earned a masters degree at Hardin- Simmons University in Abilene. Upon completion of his post-graduate studies at Texas A&M University in College Station, he began his career as an educator, spanning 43 years across Texas.

He began his career at Robert Lee High School in Coke County Texas, teaching there for 11 years. He went on to teach in Canyon, Texas for 7 years before settling in Snyder, Texas.  He taught for Snyder Independent School District for 25 years, including Texas History and driver’s education.  He retired in 2003.

He was a member of the Hayrick Masonic Lodge #696 Masonic District 77, located in Coke County Texas.  He was recently recognized for his 50 years of service. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church. He married Carolyn Stuckey on June 18, 1971 in Abilene, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn and their daughter, Laura and her husband Bobby Griffith of Snyder; 2 grandchildren: Piper and Boden Griffith of Snyder. His brother Frank Hamby and his wife, Patsy Hamby of Dallas, Georgia; sister and brother in laws:  David and Kathyrn Stuckey; Susie Stuckey. He also is survived by 4 nieces: Nancy Tomasini, Lynda Hamby, Susan Crutchfield, and Sara Jones; and 2 nephews: Joshua Stuckey and Michael Hamby.

Visitation will be on Friday from 6-7 PM at Bell- Cypert- Seale Funeral Home.
