Mr. David (D.P.) Putman Ammons, Jr., from Hermleigh, Texas, died on Tuesday, February 21,2023, at Crowley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Crowley, Texas. Mr. Ammons was born in Inadale, Texas, on June 20, 1932, and went to school in Hermleigh, Texas, and attended college at McMurray College in Abilene, Texas. He also served in the United States Army. While he was attending McMurry he played in their college band, and traveled with them to Europe when they were selected to perform there. He was a proud member of the social club KIVA Birds and has remained friends all these years with his fellow birds. Mr. Ammons worked at the First State Bank of Abilene for twenty years, starting right out of college in 1960. He then went on to work in the banking business in Snyder and Lubbock, Texas, as well as for FDIC, until he retired in the late 90s. After the passing of his wife in 2011, he went to live near his youngest daughter in Austin, Texas. During the time he resided at SouthPark Meadow's Nursing and rehabilitation center in Austin, he served as Treasurer of the Resident Council. He realized one day shortly after he moved there, that the facility did not have a flag flying or a flagpole to put one on. He was so proud of being in the military, that his first order of business as treasurer, was to take on the project of obtaining the flag and pole for the nursing home. He and other resident council members held fundraisers to raise money for the purchase, and installation of the flagpole and an American Flag. Once the project was completed, SouthPark nursing home held a service on veterans' day and honored him with a plaque, which was installed at the base of the foundation under the flagpole. He was very proud to work on this project. Mr. Ammons was an avid fisherman and went every chance he could. He loved music, he was a gifted singer and guitar player, and photographer, and loved to be with his family and friends, always ready to tell a good story. He is preceded in death by his parents, David Putman Ammons, and Jeanette Allen (Allie) Rike Ammons, his brother Walter Ammons, his sister Mattie Mae Ammons, his niece Marilyn Olsen, and his wife, Donna Ammons. He is survived by his daughter Angela Dawn Foster, and husband Klint Foster, his daughter, Andrea D' Ann Bennett, his nephew Ron Ammons, his niece Sheila Scott, grandsons, Aaron Foster, and wife Chelsea, Kyle Foster, and wife, Brittney, and three grandchildren, Zoey, Nora, Dominick, and a new granddaughter on the way. Visitation will be held Friday, February 24, 2023, from 6- 7 PM at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 2 o'clock PM at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
