Dr. Paul A. Thompson, Jr. was born May 22, 1945, in Fort Worth, TX, to Paul A. Thompson, Sr. and Tommie Lou Thompson. He passed away on September 15, 2019 in Granbury, Texas, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He grew up in Lakeview, TX, before moving to Abilene. Paul graduated from Abilene High School then Abilene Christian University. After moving back to Lakeview and trying his hand at farming, Paul knew that he had a different calling. He then graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Cogdell Memorial Hospital Auxiliary provided a scholarship for Paul to pursue his medical career giving him the foundation for the next chapter in his life.
Dr. T, as referred to by many of his patients and friends, began his 33-year medical practice in Snyder, Texas, in 1979. He took pride in his work and loved caring for his patients before retiring in 2012. When he was not working, Paul enjoyed hunting fishing, traveling, golfing, and most of all, singing karaoke whenever he had the chance.
Paul loved sharing his words of wisdom with anyone who would listen, and his two favorite phrases were “talent shows and water seeks its own level” and “always remember who you are and where you came from”.
He was a proud member of the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and his men’s Sunday school class at Colonial Hill Baptist Church.
Paul is survived by his wife of 32 years, Christy Thompson. He is also survived by a son, Paul A. Thompson III, a daughter, Lea Ann Thompson, a stepdaughter, Paige Bell Culp, and a stepson, Blake Bell. Other survivors include his sister in law, Sue Thompson, and his nephew, JT Thompson.
