Elzie Verline Calley, long time resident of Scurry County, died Monday, October 21st, 2019 in Snyder after a brief illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Calley, 86 is set for 10 AM Friday at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home with Ben Moore, pastor of First Baptist Church of Ira, officiating. Burial will follow in the Ira Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born March 20, 1933 in Colorado City, she married Billy Calley on October 14, 1951 in Forsan, Texas.
Affectionately known by her three children as mother, momma, or mom and as granny by her grandchildren, she blessed her family with wisdom and prayer. Verline faithfully walked beside her husband and joyfully served her Lord and Savior teaching Vacation Bible School and Sunday School for more than 50 years. She was an avid and gifted painter and cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years; parents, Damon and Sylvia Light and one sister, Leona Wiggins.
She is survived by a daughter, Gwen Nichols of Hurst; two sons and daughters-in-law Myron and Cindy Calley and Darryl and Teena Calley, all of Snyder; nine grandchildren Nicole Patrick (Ryan Bennett), Trey Patrick (Cati), Colin Patrick (Jenn), Kasey Faurie (Mike), Korby Calley (Angie), Brodie Calley (Brandyl), Amanda Bayer (Travis), Aryn Black (Cody), Austin Calley (Mandi) 18 great grandchildren;a sister Ladell Paff of Hewitt; and several faithful caregivers.
Visitation is set for Thursday, from 6 PM to 7 PM at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials to The Gideons International, St. Jude Children's Hospital; 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis TN. 38105 or Ira First Baptist Church Building Fund.
