Frances Ruth Cox Denman went to be with her Lord on April 27, 2021 in Snyder, Texas.
Services for Mrs. Denman will be Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Colonial Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Reid Johnson Officiating. Internment will follow at Hayrick Lodge Cemetery in Robert Lee, Texas. Services are under the direction of Bell Cypert Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Denman was born in Fairbanks, Louisiana on January 12, 1928 to Edna Ethlyn Balkum Cox and John Pickett Cox. Her happiest childhood memories were when her family lived in an oil camp outside of Lafors, Texas. She and her brothers, J.B. and Billy Jack, along with her parents and other camp families, spent fun times going to a stand of trees in the area where they camped out and swam in the lake. Her family later moved to Magnolia, Texas where she graduated from Magnolia High School in 1945. While in high school, she played basketball, volleyball, and was in the pep rally. Her high school years were spent during the Second World War. She said it was a time where it seemed “everything was rationed.” She went to business school after graduation. After a few years, she moved to Grapeland, Texas and worked in a five & dime store where she met her future husband, Jack R. Denman, when he came in to make a purchase. He sent one of his friends to ask her if she would go out with him. She told this friend, “if Jack Denman wants to ask me out, he should do it himself.” She said that he serenaded her as he played his guitar on dates. They were married on April 13, 1950 in the parlor in the home of the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Grapeland, Texas. They eventually left East Texas and lived in Delhi, Louisiana and then moved to Robert Lee, Texas to follow his work with Sun Oil Company. After two years, they moved to Silver, Texas and lived in an oil camp there. During these years, she was active in Silver Baptist Church where she worked in Vacation Bible School, taught the Primary Class, was active in Women’ Missionary Union, P.T.A. and became a proficient water skier. In 1966, a move was made back to Robert Lee. In 1965, she entered LVN school and graduated in 1966. She worked as a floor nurse at West Coke County Hospital in Robert Lee. In 1971, they moved to Snyder where she worked at Cogdell Memorial Hospital as an operating room nurse. Nursing was her passion, and she enjoyed those days and friends in the hospital immensely. They were then moved to Garland, Texas and Edmond, Oklahoma before returning to Snyder in 1980. She joined, and was an active member, of Colonial Hill Baptist Church. During these years, she painted, volunteered in the church, and was active in Women’s Missionary Union and her Sunday School class. She loved to play bridge, dominoes and keep and play with her grandchildren. She and Jack were happily married for 57 years before he passed away on November 17, 2007. She devotedly loved her daughter, Kathy, and her son, David. She was a Christian and tried to live her life in a way pleasing to the Lord. Her later years brought near blindness, but she listened to her Sunday School lesson weekly and listened to her daily Bible readings every day. She watched the Homebound Sunday School Class taught by Ernie Armstrong via broadcast each Sunday morning and watched the morning service as well. She enjoyed her friends at Goodlife Assisted Living, especially her skip-bo group.
