Gloria Nell Griffin

October 7, 1930 — May 11, 2021

Gloria Nell Watson Griffin, age 90, passed away in the morning on May 11, 2021
in her home near Vincent, Texas.

A visitation will be held at Bell Cypert Seale Funeral home in Snyder, Texas
Thursday, May 13, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.

Gloria Watson Griffin was born October 7, 1930 in Scurry County, Texas to Ava
Sorrells Watson. She was the youngest child and dearly loved by her 2 older
brothers, Weldon and Billy Ray Watson.

She grew up and attended school in Ira and graduated from Ira High in 1948. That
fall, she attended Texas Tech University and later transferred to Sul Ross State
University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree.

Nearing the end of her freshman year of college in 1949, she attended a dance in
Stanton, Texas where she met a handsome man with bright blue eyes. Later, when
her date was in the restroom, that man asked her for a dance.

When she returned home late that night, she woke her mother and told her, “I met
my cowboy tonight.”
Her cowboy and the love of her life was T.L. Griffin II. They were married on
April 1, 1951 at the Ira Church of Christ in Ira, Texas.

The couple moved around for the first several years of their marriage before their
final move back to the Griffin Family Ranch in Borden County, Texas, where they
stayed and raised their 3 children: Thomas Lane Griffin, Gay Ann Griffin, and
Talley Lou Griffin Brown.

Gloria was a loving mother, daughter, grandmother (Mimi), great-grandmother,
caretaker, teacher, coach, and friend. She was active in the community and spent
the majority of her time serving others.

There was nothing she could not do. She managed every task with grace, patience
and class, and maintained her marvelous sense of style while doing it.

Even more remarkable than her outward beauty was her beauty on the inside. She
was generous and thoughtful. She made time for everyone and left them feeling
special, important, and loved…and always with a full stomach.

She was an exceptional cook whether it be around the campfire or in a kitchen and
made a pot of beans unmatched. She was a seamstress like her mother and she not
only made beautiful clothes, but anything else you could imagine; table cloths,
curtains, baby blankets, furniture, stick horses and cavalry uniforms and Indian
apparel that the best of Hollywood’s costume designer’s could not match. She
enjoyed bird watching and collecting eggs and loved spending time in nature. She
climbed Rocky Mountains in Colorado into her 70s helping many grandchildren as
she went. She found the best walking sticks, had an eye for the prime fishing spots,
knew where to find the prettiest arrowheads, always had time for a hot chocolate
party and would never turn down a chance to go shopping.

She lived her life in a way that reflected Christ – highlighted especially in her
humility, kindness, and grace.

Throughout their 59 years of marriage, Tee and Glory traveled many miles. They
set an example of love and commitment and left behind a legacy that their children,
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren aspire to.

Gloria is survived by her son, Lane Griffin and his wife Dian, middle daughter,
Gay Griffin, and youngest daughter, Talley Griffin Brown and her husband Rob A.
Brown, sister-in-law Delores Watson.

She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and their 9 spouses along with 20 greatgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband T. L. Griffin August 01, 2010 and two brothers Weldon and Billy Ray Watson.

Donations in her memory can be made at West Texas Rehab; 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605 and Hendrick Home
for Children; 2758 Jeanete  Street, Abilene, TX 79602 and also to Samaritan’s Purse; P. O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607
