Homer C. Godair

January 9, 1928 — February 18, 2020

Homer C. Godair of Snyder, Texas entered his heavenly home on the morning of  Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Good Life, Building C. The funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Friday, February 21 in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Snyder, TX with Pastor Ben Reid officiating. The service will be under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.  Visitation is from 6 to 7 PM on Thursday, February 20 at Bell-Cypert-Seale.

Mr. Godair was born on January 9, 1928 in Griffithville, Arkansas to Louie Lester and Jennie Alice Godair. From 1946 to 1947, he served in the 11 th Airborne Division, U.S. Army, with the Occupational Forces in Japan. He was one of the last 18 year olds to be drafted.  He made seven parachute jumps over the Japanese area of Sendia.

After leaving the service, Mr. Godair moved to Texas and started working for the Santa Fe Railroad in Lamesa, Slaton, and Snyder. In Snyder, he worked for Chevron in the Sacroc Field for thirty-four years.

Homer married Jean Haney, the love of his life, after a six month courtship, on March 31, 1950. March 31, 2020 would have been their 70 th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Godair was a deacon for sixty-six years at the First Baptist Church, Snyder. He was associated with Texas Church Builders and helped build churches all over the United States.  He also donated many gallons of blood throughout his lifetime, 8 gallons since 1983 alone.  He was a member of the Scurry County Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years, and he enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels. He coached Farm League and Little League baseball for many years and loved the game.

Mr. Godair was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Lois, Joyce and Carol, and one brother, Gordon. He is survived by his wife, Jean of Snyder, three daughters and their spouses, Jennifer and Bill Muncey of Stephenville, TX,  Janice and Monty Smith of Ft. Worth, TX, and Joan and Michael Head of Snyder, TX, and one son, Greg Godair and his partner, Sheila Jenkins, of Rockwall, TX, plus seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Mr. Godair is also survived by one brother, Truman Godair of Arkansas, and by many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Godair was a steadfast Christian who was devoted to his God, his family, and his country. He was a man of integrity who found joy in helping others and living a simple life surrounded by those who loved him. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children.
