Islasu “Nana” Blakely Minor stepped out of her jar of clay and into the arms of Jesus on April 18, 2021. The world lost a
mother, a Nana, a sister and an aunt, but heaven’s halls are greater for her voice of praise.
Sue was born in Scurry County on March 13, 1934, to Sherman and Maudie Blakely. She was the ninth of ten children.
She always said she had the best life, even though she lost her father at age three, her oldest brother at age 10, and grew
up with a widowed mother who took in boarders and ironing to support the three children left in the home after her
brother died in the war.
Snyder was her lifelong home. She was active in First Baptist Church, and fondly remembered the spiritual leadership of
Brother Shepard in her adolescence. She loved people and made friends everywhere she went. She graduated in 1951
from Snyder High School and married Roaal (Rudy) Minor on July 25, 1953 after he wooed her back from a year of
college at Howard Payne University. After their third daughter came along, they bought a farm west of town and she gave
the farm life and her family all she had. Once the oldest kids began to leave home, she worked as a school secretary at
the junior high and then at East Elementary.. Mrs. Minor was “momma” to many children, and a favorite of parents and
teachers.
In retirement, the Circle of Friends chapter of the Pharr West Hitchhikers became a second family to Rudy and Sue. They
not only saw much of Texas, the US and Canada, but they enjoyed weekend rallies in Lubbock and nearby towns.
After Rudy passed away in 2009, Sue found that she was no longer happy on the farm without him. In 2012 she bought a
home in Lubbock near two of her daughters. She found another circle of friends at Bacon Heights Baptist Church where
she was active in the senior choir. In 2017, she sold that house and downsized to an apartment at Brookdale Grand
Court. She enjoyed the activities there and soon knew the names of all the residents and employees. She hated leaving
when her illness required more care.
Sue was everyone’s friend and tried to be a blessing to all. Those who knew her will usually agree that she made them
feel loved. Her nieces and nephews all loved being at Aunt Sue’s/Aunt “Brownie’s” house. She left a legacy of joy and love
for Jesus.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five sisters and four brothers, as well as a son-in-law. Those
remaining to live out her legacy are as follows:Children: Teresa and Ricky Trammell of Hubbard, Texas; Lesa and Duane Ritter of Lubbock; Susan and Scott Clark of Lubbock; Jeff and Kim Minor of Snyder, Texas. Grandchildren: Toby and Shannon Trammell, Tara and Kent Gatzki; Dustin and Crystal Peters, Ross and Ginger Peters, Brad and Vera Ritter, Mitzi Ritter, Randy and Deidra Ritter; Cody Clark (Brandi McConnell), Chase and Kendra Clark; Meggan and Bryan Long, Bailey and Josh Andrews.
Seventeen great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren

The family would like to express their gratitude for the love and support over the last few months from Hospice of
Lubbock and Comfort Keepers, as well as the staff at Brookdale Grand Court.
