James Edmond Merrell

Mr. James Edmond Merrell, 91, of Snyder, Texas went to be with the Lord on April 21, 2018. Burial will be in the Hillside Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Snyder, Texas. Services are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

James was born May 15, 1926 in Hopkins County near Sulfer Springs, Texas. He graduated from Midland High School in Midland, Texas in 1944. Upon graduating from high school, he joined the United States Navy serving on the USS St. George during the Pacific Theater in WWII. James married Edna Audrey Lomax on June 10, 1951. They were married 66 years.

James attended Sul Ross University, Texas Tech University and graduated from McMurry University. He also attended ILIF school of Theology in Denver, Colorado.

James served in a number of churches in the Northwest Texas conference including Trinity Methodist Church in Snyder and Ira Methodist Church in Ira, Texas.

Left to carry on James' legacy is his wife, Edna Merrell of Snyder; daughter-Mary and her husband Jim Sweeney of Dubuque, Iowa;Sons- Mark and his wife Judy Merrell of Colrado City, Texas and Kirk and his wife Ciana Merrell of Amarillo, Texas. Grandchildren are Mica and her husband Clayton Roberts, Megan and her husband Matt Oliver, Sarah and her husband Andy Hallum, James and his wife Jessica Merrell and John and his wife Stephanie Merrell; 12 Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents-Hilda (Hughens) and Hennings Merrell; Sisters- Alta K. Merrell, Helen Ruth McCord, Audie Wooten, Mennie McReynolds and Deneva Spartz; one Son-Eddie Merrell and one Great Granddaughter- Grace Roberts. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church Blessing Fund in Snyder, Texas, or Butman Methodist Camp, 158 CR 674, Merkel, Texas 79536.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Methodist Church in Snydr, Texas on Saturday April 28, 2018 at 10 O'clock AM
