James Ralph Price

July 25, 1934 — June 22, 2022

Mr. James Ralph Price, 87 of Fluvanna, TX, died on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at his home in Fluvanna.

A Funeral Service for Mr. Price will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Colonial Hill Baptist Church with Hospice Chaplain Kinney Robinson and Mr. Chad Etheridge officiating. Interment will follow at Fluvanna Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Ralph was born in 1934 in Overton, Texas, the second of Arthur and Dena's five children. During his school years, Ralph participated in FFA, showed steers, and rode broncs. His lifelong love for ranching began around this time. Upon high school graduation, he enlisted in the Army and ended up stationed in Guam where his division was responsible for civil engineering construction projects. He met Nelda "Nell" Bell Warren, a waitress at the Fluvanna Cafe, while back home in West Texas on his first leave, and she later joined him in Fort Benning, Georgia, where they wed. After serving in the Army, Ralph followed in his dad's footsteps by joining the family oil-field construction business along with his brother, Sonny.  Between 1964 and 1968 Ralph took a break from construction to follow his passion of ranch work. During this time period he worked on the Fuller Ranch in Scurry County and the Coleman Ranch in Ackerly. In 1969 he returned to Price Construction and then some years later the company became Price Brothers Construction with Sonny, Ralph, Ronnie, and Bill at the helm. Ralph retired from the business in 1991
In 1990, Ralph bought the ranch of his dreams in Borden County. He and Nell had two daughters and a son and shared nearly 40 years of marriage before her untimely death in 1995. After some time, Ralph was blessed to meet Mary Jo. They shared a life together for 25 years, traveling around doing consulting work for Parkhill Smith and Cooper. He never tired of reading the Bible and great Western writers like Elmer Kelton. Ralph witnessed many spells of drought in his days, but whenever someone asked if it worried him, he'd smile and say, "Well, we missed the rain today, but we're one day closer."
Ralph was loved by all who knew him, and he will be missed terribly. But we find comfort in knowing that he was welcomed into Jesus's arms upon his passing.
