Jennetta Thompson Bailey, life-time resident of Snyder, died on July 12, 2021 at the age of 99. She and her twin sister, Margretta, were born on February 2, 1922 on the family farm in Ira, Texas to Joe A. and Mary Lois (Fairley) Thompson. Growing up on a farm in Ira, Texas she moved to Littlerock, Arkansas and worked in an artillery plant during World War II, when she met her husband John E. Bailey. They were married on July 12, 1946 in Carthage, Missouri. They gave birth to three children. Sandra Jean Bailey, Gary Lee Bailey, and Karen Sue Bailey.
Fondly known to many as “Jeat”, she was well known for her excellent cooking and sewing skills. She enjoyed spending time with her children and certainly all the grands. Each one of her family’s favorite foods was always prepared for gatherings, with enough to feed an army. She was a longtime member of the 37 th Street Church of Christ. She was able to join her husband, whom she has sorely missed for the last 22 years, to celebrate their wedding anniversary today. How awesome is that!
The last of the surviving children of the Thompson family, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; W.P. (Snooks), and Joe Jr. (Mutt) Thompson. Three sisters; Ilene Jordan, Shirley Dove, and Margretta Bentley. Also preceding her in death are her daughter Sandra Bailey Lieb, son-in-law Calvin Lee Goebel, daughter-in-law Karen Kay (Katy) Bailey.
Survivors include son Gary Bailey of Midland, Texas, daughter Karen Goebel of Snyder, Texas and son-in-law Bob Lieb of Pearland, Texas. Four grand-daughters; Laurie Quillen of Pearland, Texas, Misty Bannatyne of Katy, Texas, Adrienne Bailey of Huntsville, Texas, and Deidra Burleson of Snyder, Texas. One grandson Chad Goebel of Snyder, Texas. Eight great-grandchildren. Two great great-grandchildren. Two brother-in-law’s Ralph Bailey (Marge) of Las Vegas, Nevada and Charles Bailey of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. One sister-in-law Jane Ybarra of Las Vegas, Nevada. Also numerous nieces and nephews, and several cousins.
Special thanks to her caregivers Dorothy Grimes, Julie Valadez, Belen Garza, Dora Berkley, Evelyn Ware, the Goodlife Senior Living staff and Cogdell Hospice. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the 37 th Street Church of Christ or any disabled American veterans charities.
