If you were to ask Jim Erwin how he is today, he would tell you "Never Better". The reason being, Dad left this earthly life he'd walked for some 88 years on June 23, 2021 and stepped into his heavenly home. "To live is Christ! to die gain!" (Philippians 1:21)
Services for Mr. Erwin will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021 at 10 o'clock AM at First United Methodist Church with Pastor John Erwin and Pastor Clay Belcher officiating. Internment will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Dad was born on April 06, 1933 in Buckeye, AZ. The son of Barto Hartman and Florence Evelyn Lapraik Erwin. Dad claimed to have had a storybook childhood growing up and then graduating from Ballinger High School in 1950.
He then attended Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. . While there he played on their varsity tennis team. Dad transferred to Texas Tech University where he graduated in 1955 with his degree in education. He also earned his Master's degree in education from Southwest Texas State. Dad then served in the United States Marine Corps attending boot camp in San Diego, CA. . He was then assigned to Marine Air group 31 in Opa Locka, FL. . He was promoted to the rank of sergeant and served in Central America and the Mediterranean sea aboard the aircraft carrier U.S. Champlain. Dad married Reba Ann Carr on August 30, 1958. They then moved to Snyder in 1959. He started his education career as Snyder's Director of Special Services. He then became Snyder's Elementary Schools Counselor. He then later served as Principal of North Elementary starting in 1986. Dad retired from school administration in 1992. He later worked two years for a textbook company and twelve more years for the candidates for military service and Border Patrol positions.
Dad loved to hunt dove and quail, play tennis and most of all golf. He is also responsible for planting over 500 trees in Snyder. Some he outlived while others will still remain for years to come. Thank you Snyder for being so good to Dad.
