Joe Spivey

Mr. Joe Spivey, 95, of Indiana, passed away on November 28, 2024 in Indiana.

Joe was born in Spur, Texas May 7,1929 to Ernest and Bertie (Dennis) Spivey.

Joe moved to New Mexico when he was 10 years old and grew up near Levi and Maxwell.  He graduated from Maxwell High School.

He had joined the army when he graduated.  He served in the 4th army headquarters in San Antonio, Texas and the 9th Corps in Japan under General McArthur.  He was proud to serve his country.  He always said he was a good soldier.

Joe married Helen Spencer in 1949 in Mountainair, New Mexico.

Joe was a devoted and loyal husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He was the father of two children: Norm (Lois) and Karen, grandsons Matt (Beth) and Steve (Tara) and great grandchildren Hannah, Norah, Jude and Ava. Karen passed away in 2003.

Joe enjoyed working cattle and training horses.  He had a ranch in which he was able to enjoy this kind of life. He always said he was born a cowboy.

Joe had a Bachelor’s degree from Highlands University, Las Vegas, NM, and a Master’s degree from Montana State University, Bozeman, MT.

Thus, he began his long career in Education.

He was known for his willingness to share his talents, experiences, and knowledge with others.  He was known for his expertise and knowledge he displayed in education serving in the administrative and coaching duties for many years.

Also, Joe’s talent and knowledge of rodeo allowed him to serve as a PRCA rodeo announcer and as a rodeo judge.  He participated in well-known rodeos which is a tribute to him.

Joe had a loving heart, true wisdom, tireless for a quest for knowledge, and was a true warrior who served others with a giving heart.

Joe served many years as a deacon at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Billings, MT and at 1st Baptist Church in Snyder, TX.  He also broadcast a Bible Study class for two years in Snyder, TX.

Across the years Helen has walked hand in hand with Joe.  His time on earth has ended.  In Heaven too, Joe will have Helen’s hand in God’s Kingdom.

Joe will be laid to rest at 10 AM on Monday, Dec. 16th at Nolan Cemetery in Nolan County, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
