Johnie was born to CG and Lillian Raughton on March 11, 1931 in Stamford, Tx. She grew up in the Paint Creek Community. She attended Abilene Christian College and then worked for the newspaper in Stamford. She met Tommy Riley at a dance and they later married on May 24, 1958. They lived in Lubbock, then settled in Snyder where they had 2 sons, Clayton and Kinney. After the death of Tommy’s dad they moved to the family ranch north of Snyder in 1973. Johnie worked as a teachers’ aid and PE teacher in the Hermleigh schools for many years. They both retired in 1990. She was Tommy’s best friend and helper on the ranch. Their favorite pastime was enjoying family and friends, and especially dancing together. They were founders of the West Texas Rehab Center annual Christmas Ball. For many years they supported the Scurry County Rodeo Association and Scurry County Stockshows.
