Juanita Ellington 96 of Abilene, TX went to heaven surrounded by the love of her family and friends on Wednesday Oct 16, 2024 after a sudden illness.
The daughter of Fred and Nettie Martin, Juanita was born Oct 26, 1927 in Scurry Co., TX. Juanita married the love of her life, Joe Ellington, on Nov 17, 1945 in Snyder. Juanita and Joe lived in Snyder and raised their three daughters. Juanita was a remarkable Christian woman who loved everyone and everyone loved her.
Juanita worked at various retailers early on until she established and operated a home day care for over 25 years. She was perfect for day care because of her loving nature and her love of children. As many know once you met Juanita, she was a friend for life. The kids she first kept are now in their 60s and they still stay in contact with “Auntie”. Juanita also worked at Keaton Kolor in Snyder, first in the “hut” and later at the retail store.
After her Joe passed, Juanita lived in Abilene. She became a volunteer for Hendrick Hospice for 15 years. She never lost her love of work and doing for other. When she lived in University Place in Abilene, she became the “resident baker”. She baked for UP until her eyesight made her stop. Not baking for others broke her heart. She said it was the hardest thing to do and what she missed the most.
Juanita was a member of Oldham Lane Church of Christ in Abilene. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her. Juanita will be reunited with her precious Joe, her sister Virginia Johnston, her brother Fred Monroe Martin, Jr, and her parents Fred and Nettie Martin.
Juanita is survived by her daughters Connie Keaton and Allen, Deborah Ellington, and Jennifer Townsley and Rex. She had six grandchildren Kim Stinnett, Jamie Golden and Stephen, Robin McAnaney, Cory Fisher and Shara, Scott Rodgers and Trey Keaton. She had 13 great-grandchildren, Justin Sudberry, Sierra Medford, Logan Stinnett, Jaleigh Sudberry, C. J. Ferard, Jessica Ferard, Devon Ferard, Molly McAnaney, Riley Buonamano, Cameron Fisher, Michael Buonamano, River Fisher, and Zoey Fisher. She had nine great great-grandchildren, Kylie Ferard, Kynslie Ferard, Jace Ferard, Henleigh Ferard, Thea Ferard, Laura Ferard, Archer Lawson, Parker Medford and Walker Medford.
Visitation for Juanita will be 9:00 am, October 21, 2024, followed by services at 10 am at Oldham Lane Church of Christ. Visitation in Snyder will be 3:00 pm with burial to follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Memorial may be made to Hendrick Hospice Care 1600 Pine Street Abilene, TX 79601. The family extends a heart felt thanks to the Nurses and Doctors at Hendrick Hospital and Hendrick Hospice.
