Larry Gene Devitt, 76, of Snyder, TX, passed away on December 19, 2024 at his home in Snyder, Texas. A memorial service will be held Saturday December 21, 2024 at 2 o'clock pm at Bell Cypert Seale funeral home with Reverend Ben Reid officiating. Arrangements are undertake direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born on March 22, 1948, in Brownfield, TX, to Ruffus Ernie and Verna Mae (Wilkes) Devitt, Larry lived a life devoted to family and education. He married Linda (Causey) Devitt on January 27, 1969, in Denver City, TX, and together they built a loving family and legacy.
A dedicated scholar, Larry earned his master’s degree in education from Texas Tech University in 1973 and later completed his doctorate in mathematics at the University of California. His career in education spanned decades, during which he served as a teacher, Principal and superintendent, inspiring countless students and colleagues.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Larry enjoyed working on his farm, exploring the outdoors, and spending cherished moments with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. An avid collector, he took pride in curating a remarkable Coca-Cola memorabilia collection.
Larry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda Devitt; son Scott Devitt and wife JoAnna of Arlington, TX; daughter Adelia Barker and husband Joe Churchill of Snyder, TX; grandchildren Hannah Sandoval and husband Josh of Snyder, Hope Barker of Snyder, and Jasmine Churchill of Lubbock, TX; Toni Devitt of Arlington and great-grandchildren JD, James, and Jonathon Sandoval of Snyder, I’zlan Davis of Snyder, and Attis Gonzales of Lubbock. He also leaves behind great-granddaughters Kambree and Henley Sandoval of Snyder, Lily Gonzales, and Cataleya Gonzales of Lubbock, TX. Additional survivors include brother-in-law Edwin Galyean of Snyder, nephew Randall Devitt of Austin, TX, and niece Debra Ashby of Seymour, TN.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wayne Devitt, grandson Jonathon Devitt, sister-in-law Ann Galyean, brother-in-law James Causey, and nephew Stanley Devitt.
Heartfelt thanks to West Texas Home Health and Hospice and Dr Hough for their excellent care. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
