Latham Wyman Ryan was born April 9, 1931 to Latham H. Ryan and Leta Mae Kelley Ryan. Latham, known as Dad, Pappy, or L.W. passed away after having double pneumonia at the age of 90 on February 15, 2022. He had been at Hilltop Rehabilitation Center since January 27, 2022. Although his body was weak from having pneumonia, his mind was sharp as a tack.
Latham grew up on a cattle farm near Bradshaw. He went to school in Bradshaw through the 8th grade and finished High School in Winters, TX. As a young fellow, he many times rode his horse to school in Bradshaw and had a teacher who taught him how to caponize roosters. Latham then went home and much to his dad's chagrin caponized every rooster on the farm. Latham loved cowboying, but made the decision to make the oil field his career path. He was transferred to Snyder, Texas in 1952 where he met Lyn Newby. After another transfer to Sundown, Texas in 1953, Latham and Lyn were married in 1954. After moving to Hobbs, New Mexico, Lubbock, Texas and Midland, Texas, he finished his oil field career in Dallas, Texas. At the time of his retirement, he was National Sales Manager for an International Oil Field Equiptment Company travelling to Canada and South America. Latham was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
Latham loves Bob Wills music, rodeo and reading newspapers. When his granddaughters were young, it was his delight to take them to horse events, parks, and to go for ice cream. Latham was a great storyteller to the delight of his family. Most of the stories were true oil field stories and Lyn often told him, "You should write a book of these experiences." To which Latham replied, "I'd have to wait until some of these people are dead."
As a member of the South Main Church of Christ in Weatherford, Latham enjoyed listening to the livestream service on Sundays. He loved God, his family, and his country. Latham was a wonderful husband, dad, and grandfather and will be missed greatly.
