Linda Gay Mize, 73 passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Cogdell Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born in 1949 in Loraine, Texas, the first of John and Helen (Miles) Morgan’s two children. Linda graduated from Colorado High School in 1967. Following graduation, she attended the University of Texas at Arlington. Linda was introduced to Darrell, the love of her life and husband of 54 years, by her sister-in-law, Pearlene. The two married on June 22, 1968 in Colorado City, Texas and began building a family shortly thereafter with the additions of son, Russell “Rusty” and daughter, Kristi. Linda became a Registered Nurse in 1981 serving first at Cogdell Memorial Hospital in Snyder, later transitioning to nursing roles of a more administrative nature at Mitchell County Hospital District. She retired as CEO of the Mitchell County Hospital District in 2008 to care for both of her parents.
Linda delighted most in her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed decorating, cooking, and gardening. She was a woman of faith and was always eager to serve others. Linda was filled with joy and was a constant source of encouragement to all around her. She will be remembered fondly for her generous spirit, kindness, and compassion.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell ; her parents, John and Helen Morgan and L.C. and Clyda Mize; sister-in-law Elsie Shaw and husband Curtis, nieces Lana Culpepper and Debbie Shaw; and nephew Todd Shaw. She is survived by her daughter, Kristi Hanley of Snyder; son, Russell "Rusty" Mize of Snyder; sister, Janie McVean and husband James of Bulverde; sister-in-law, Pearlene Nolan and husband Dale of Snyder; grandchildren, Anna and Alexa Hanley of Snyder; long-time friend, Jeff Stewart of Snyder; and numerous nieces and nephews.
We are so thankful for the most excellent care provided by Dr. Jim Burleson; Cogdell Hospice; Cogdell Hospital and caregiver, and long-time friend and caregiver Esther Vasquez.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cogdell Foundation, the charity of your choice, or remember Linda by spreading love in your life as she did in ours.
