She passed peacefully from this life to her heavenly home on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, in Georgetown, Texas. She married C. Glenn Toombs on March 19, 1950. He preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1981. She was a member of the Fluvanna Baptist Church and taught Sunday School.

Marge, is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Toombs-Strong of Georgetown, son, Mike Toombs of Lubbock, and son Patrick Toombs and wife Lorianne of Colorado City, Texas; granddaughter, Tracy Strong Bohac and husband, David of Austin, grandson Brien Toombs and wife Cherie of Weatherford, and granddaughter Bethany Toombs Mathis and husband Jay of Colorado City; great-grandchildren: Alexis Dickinson, Michalea Rouse, Michael Strong, Dakota Bohac, Malachi, Matthew, and Maverick Mathis, Braden Faz, Mason, Weston, and Addie Toombs; Brother-in-law, Bruce Land, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Byron Southard Jr., sisters, Maxine Rosson and Jim Land and granddaughter, Misty Strong.

Marge grew up in Lamesa, Texas, graduating from Lamesa High School. She worked for her father at the Cattle Auction Barn in Lamesa. While living in Lamesa she met Glenn, the love of her life. They married and moved to Amarillo and Lubbock with Glenn’s work. Marge and Glenn settled in Fluvanna and lived a wonderful life there with their three children. Marge loved being a mother, home maker and partner in running the family farm and ranch. She could be found gathering sheep, feeding cattle, tromping cotton, or running the module builder on any day. Marge worked for the USDA and served on several West Texas Cotton boards. She enjoyed her time working with the Borden County Historical Society and Borden Star. She was a fabulous cook and cooked for not only the family, but also farm hands, and friends. She had a servant’s heart and the gift of mercy. It was her ministry to prepare meals, bake pies and cakes, and bring good cheer to sick friends and family. She shared her time sitting bedside, loving each family, and reminiscing shared memories. She was a great storyteller of adventures.

Marge’s greatest joy was her family. She invested time in each life by ensuring they respected others, loved God, and served their communities. She led by example. Homework and chores were completed before other activities. She called out spelling words or test questions, read play lines, sat in the basketball and football stands cheering, drove many miles to UIL competitions, stock shows, golf tournaments and graduations. She hit the campaign trail with Glenn in his run for County Judge and State Representative, as well as son, Patrick’s Sheriff races. She was present for each grandchild’s birth and insisted that Mama Marge knew best as she cared for the grands by babysitting or letting them hunt or drive on the farm. She loved hosting family reunions. She participated in “cousin mischief” by allowing frog killing at the tank and frying the jumping legs in the kitchen. She was fun and fabulous!

Her failing health would not allow for as much adventure as she would have liked. However, she still watched football with the family on the patio just over a week ago, sang “Jesus loves me” from her bed, and clapped as the grands performed for her. She was ushered into heaven as all her children and grandchildren prayed and sang her favorite hymns, and as took her last breath, she heard, “Well done thy good and faithful servant: you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter into the joy of your Lord.” Matt. 25:21
