Marjorie Mathis Dent

March 12, 1926 — January 19, 2022

Marjorie Mathis Dent went to her heavenly home on January 19th, 2022 in Sweetwater.  She was born Marjorie Faye Trevathan in Wichita Falls, Texas on March 12, 1926. She attended the University of Texas, married and raised her family in Fluvanna, Texas, where she also began her teaching career. Following many years teaching elementary school, she joined the educational staff at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Price Daniel Unit, in Snyder, where she taught primary skills and reading to adult men. She was proud of this work and felt it to be one of her greatest accomplishments. Marge believed that new worlds opened up with the ability to read.

Marge married Royce Dent in May of 2003.  They enjoyed nearly nineteen years together, tending their cows and Waltzing Across Texas!  She was an accomplished cook, to the pleasure of her family, friends, and community, even publishing a cookbook, A Dash of Country .

Survivors include her husband, Royce P. (Precious) Dent; her children: Deborah Faulk, Enid, OK; Marsha and Joe Max Edmiston, Eldorado, Texas; Dow and Beth Mathis, Boerne, Texas; nine grandchildren: Joel Faulk, Jay Faulk (Marci), Paul Faulk (Katherine), Becky Faulk Flanary (Buck), Carter Edmiston (Emily), Justin Edmiston (Lindsey), Shanna Edmiston Nail (Eric), Lane Hillje, Declan Mathis; and fifteen great grandchildren: Brenna Flanary DeHaas (Stetson), Brooklynn Flanary McGolden (Chad), Brielle Flanary, Gage Faulk, Carson, Jacob & Ryan Faulk, Trace, Clayton & Jake Edmiston, Max & Luke Edmiston and Molly Simmonds, Stella & Sam Nail. Her great-great grandaughter, Navy Lynn DeHass, will arrive in February! She is also survived by Royce’s children: Dusty and Carla Dent, Connie and Hunk Chance, Cliff and Donna Dent, Paul and Kelly Dent and their families.  Other survivors include nieces Marilyn Holland and Pat Dudley, Lou Alice and David Wilson, Martha and David Hagood, and nephews Wayne Moody, Jerry and Pat Uttz, Mark Mathis and Tom and Teala Hurley, and their families. Marge will also be missed by her many friends and hundreds of former students.

The family expresses their appreciation to the staff of Hoyt Place Assisted Living in Sweetwater for their kindness and compassion during our Mother's time there.
