Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Hicks (Beth), 85, of Snyder, TX, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at her home in Snyder, TX. A funeral service for Mrs. Hicks will be at 10 AM Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Bell-Cypert-Seale Chapel with Hospice Chaplain Kinney Robinson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hicks was born August 21, 1938, to Allen and Mary (Teague) Birdwell in Wickett, TX. She married Gerald Hicks on October 26, 1956. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1994.
Beth Hicks was affectionately known as “Nana” to her family. She spent her life as a provider and a Protector for those she loved. Gerald was the love of her life, and she suffered the pain of his passing immensely, but she endured with a strong faith, and continued to honor their love for each other by sharing the strength of that love with her children and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Beth was a member of Colonial Hill Baptist Church where she absolutely loved and cherished her Sunday School Class “The Love Class”. Her class members constantly showered her with love and care during her final years here in Snyder.
Beth and Gerald raised their family in Snyder where she began her career as a baker and created the recipe for her famous fried pies. She baked hundreds of birthday cakes, shower cakes, and wedding cakes along with her fried pies and cookies for her friends and customers in Snyder, before she and Gerald moved to Graham TX in June 1988. Her delicious cakes were a work of art, and she spent countless hours designing and building her one of kind creations. She continued baking in Graham where her business flourished, and she soon became known not only for her beautiful cakes but also as “The Fried Pie Lady”. During her years in Graham, she enjoyed the opportunity to bake for her neighbors as well as her many friends and customers. She was thrilled to have the honor of making wedding cakes for many customers and then subsequently making wedding cakes for those same customer’s children. She also had numerous customers for whom she baked their first birthday cake and then later baked their wedding cakes. She also got tickled when she would tell us of her “repeat” wedding customers when they returned for their 2nd and sometimes even a 3rd go-round. Becky would joke
with her and tell her they got divorced because they loved her cakes so much, they wanted another one. She loved her “Cake Customers” and they loved her.
Beth moved back to Snyder in June of 2018 where she continued to make cakes, cookies, meals and fried pies for her friends and family until the time of her passing.
