Morgan Shane West, age 38, passed away on February 7, 2019. He was born in Lubbock, Texas to Morgan and Sandra West on April 30, 1980. Services for Shane, as he was known by his family and friends, will be held at a later date and will be a private military graveside service with family and close friends.
As an adolescent, Shane was a lover of Taekwondo and baseball. He had a great passion for Taekwondo and eventually achieved a 3 rd degree black belt while studying at West Texas Taekwondo Academy in Snyder. He also competed in the AAU Jr. Olympic Games in San Antonio, Texas. He loved baseball and was coached by his brother-in-law. He graduated from Snyder High School in 1998 and eventually studied at Western Texas College. Shane worked on his grandparent’s Doug and Wanda West, ranch and then in 2004, on his 24 th birthday, Shane enlisted in to the United States Navy. He was proud to be a sailor and the time that he spent in the military is one of the most notable times in his life. In November of 2010, he gave his body, soul and mind to Jesus and was baptized at the 37 th Street Church of Christ. In 2014, Shane went to work for the Avalanche Journal and was employed by them until his death. He never missed a single day of work in the past 5 years and was extremely proud of this fact. Shane had an appetite for adventure. He loved learning new things and challenging himself. He knew no strangers and would chat with anyone he came across. He was a lover of music; often sharing new artists and songs with anyone who would listen. He was a lover of animals as well; especially his 2 dogs. He had a wonderful sense of humor; he loved to make people laugh and he had a contagious smile, one that always left you with a smile on your face. He will be missed greatly be his family and friends.
Shane was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra West (Pooh); grandparents, Wanda and Doug West; grandparents, T.H. and Lila Earline Jones (Nana) and other extended family members.
Shane is survived by his father, Ted Morgan West and spouse Maria; sister, Tracey Parks and spouse Whit Parks; sister, Pamela Cottrell; step-brother, Ramon Griffin; step-sisters, Brenda Levario and Eba Kinard; 5 nieces and nephews, Christi Catt and spouse Shane Catt, Whitney Smith and spouse Zack Smith, Ryan Dublin and spouse Michael Dublin, Jacob Cottrell and Grayson Parks. He also had 6 great nieces, Emily, Payton, Ryleigh, Harper, Lila and Jo. Among these surviving relatives there are also several cousins and other extended family members.
