Norman Joe Mayes, Sr. of Snyder, Texas took his last breath on this earth, but was welcomed to his eternal home, by His heavenly Father, on Thursday, March 4, 2021

Graveside services will be Monday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder with Keith Hackfeld sharing words of testimony on Norman’s behalf. The family requests that masks be worn and that social distancing be observed.

Norman was born in Megargel, TX on October 7, 1934 to Joe Walter Mayes and Delma Ormeda Cockroft . He is preceded in death by two brothers, Donnie and Benny Mayes. Norman has one sister, Marcenia Cherry who resides in Schertz, Tx.

Norman was married to the love of his life, Patsy Marleen Dean on September 17, 1954 in Wichita Falls, Tx. Until he left this earth, his main concern was always Patsy. They left a legacy of marriage to all of their children and grandchildren to see.

He and the family moved from Iowa Park, Tx to Snyder, Tx in 1970, where he assumed the role as the manager of Lone Star Gas Company.  In 1975, he made a career change to the oilfield as Materials Coordinator/Purchasing Agent for General Crude Oil Co. After 25 years of service, Norman retired from Mobil Oil Company on January 1, 1995.

Norman is survived by his precious wife of 66 years, Patsy of Snyder; two sons, Norman Joe Mayes, Jr. (Buddy) and his wife Cynthia of Midland; David Mayes and his wife Liz of Abilene; Susie Teeters and her husband Dennis of Eunice, NM; and Sherry Bilderback and husband, Dave of Snyder.

Norman was known as “PawPaw G.O.A.T.”(Greatest of all time), long before it was a thing. He has been blessed with 8 Grandchildren – Caleb Teeters, Julie Allison, Summer Matlock, Marshall Mayes, Nathan Teeters, Emily Rollins, Morgan Ford and Jessica Shubert.  In addition, he has 14 great grandchildren.

His presence will be missed in many ways but we have great assurance that he is helping Jesus reorganize heaven “just a bit.”
