Randa Kay Sterling, of Ira, Texas, passed away on October 20, 2024.
Randa was born in Midland, Texas on July 7, 1947, to RC and Eva Mae (Tamplin) Howard. RC and Eva Mae moved the family back to Ira in 1960. It was there at Ira Schools that Randa met Tommy H. Sterling. They dated all through high school and married on August 16, 1965, at Ira Baptist Church.
Tommy and Randa owned and operated Sterling Grocery & Hardware in Ira until Tommy’s passing in 2012 and then Randa continued to run the store until she closed it and retired in December 2019.
Randa was very well known in the Ira community and Scurry County for her famous freshly made to order sandwiches that she served up to several generations while owning “the store”.
Randa was a member of Ira Baptist Church for many years, then later after Tommy died, the Ira Church of God.
Randa is survived by daughter, Kara Wilson and husband, Trey of Snyder; Julie Cagle and husband Tony of Ira; and Seth Sterling and wife Whitney of Ira.
She had 5 grandchildren, Colby McMullen and wife Jessica of Midland, Texas; Shandy Brooks and husband Aric of Ft. Sam Houston, Texas; JP Wilson and wife Cena of Lubbock, Texas; Larissa Roach and husband Steven of Snyder, Texas; and Aiden Loper of Abilene, Texas.
Randa is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren. Maksen and Rowan Brooks, Joseph Soberon, Ryker Roach, Maren and Micah McMullen, and Kinley Wilson.
She is survived by brother-in-law Randy Sterling of College Station, Texas, sister-in-law, Lynn Bishop of Martindale, Texas, and several nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tommy, parents RC and Eva Mae Howard, brother Robert Howard, along with her in-laws, Gus and Jean Sterling, and brother-in-law Robert Sterling.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 6 to 7 PM at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 10 o’clock AM the Ira Cemetery with Reverend Rocky Alexander officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Ira Cemetery Association for upkeep of the cemetery at P.O. Box 175 Ira, Texas 79527.
