Dr. Robert Jarvis "Pop" Kidd was born on June 29, 1925 in Menard, Texas to Francis William Kidd and Georgia (Jarvis) Kidd. He grew up on a ranch near Menard along with his older siblings. After graduating high school at age 16, he enrolled at Texas A&M University in pursuit of veterinarian medicine. He graduated from there in 1945 and moved to Snyder
Pop married Kathrine Lynch on August 02, 1946 in Scurry County. Not long afterwards, he was petitioned for service and the two of them moved to Chicago, Illinois where he became a meat inspector for the Army. Later they were stationed at Dubuque, Iowa. When he was discharged, the couple moved back to Snyder where he set up his private veterinary practice of 46-years - caring for both large and small animals. Inspired by his example, two of his nephews became veterinarians.
Pop would soon become a staple on the golf course as it proved to be a way to unwind and, at that time, be away from the telephone. His love for the sport grew and grew. He played in all kinds of weather and is noted for 13-Holes-in-One. On Thursday March 21, he passed away playing his final round of golf - doing what he had loved for many years and having his wish granted of dying on the golf course.
Pop was an active member of the 37th Street Church of Christ. He rarely missed an oportunity to be with his church family. He spent time as a teacher both in the World Bible School program and the jail ministry and was an encourager for the youth in the Secret Grandparent program. He cared for his wife Katherine unconditionally once her health began to fail, setting and example for us all. It was during those years that Kathrine "trained" him on independent living.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Kathrine of 66 years; his brother, Billy Kidd; sister, Aleen Powell; three sisters-in-law; Rosalyn Kidd, Cy Lynch, and Peggy Medford and three brothers-in-law; John A. Powell, John Lynch, and Olen Medford.
Survivors include; two sons, Dr. Jay and his wife Sherry Kidd of Snyder and Art Kidd of Lubbock; one daughter Becki Kidd of Waukesha, Wisconsin; two granddaughters, Melanie and her husband, Blair Gibson of Sweetwater and Dr. Lacey and Her husband, Dr, Marshall Early of Midland; three great grandchildren; Brody Gibson, Mallory Gibson and Wyatt Early; long-time friend and golfing partner, Jim Erwin. As well as numerous nieces and nephews and adopted extended family.
